DOE is awarding more than $37 million to 27 projects that will
investigate marine and hydrokinetic technologies, which
generate renewable electricity from oceans, rivers, and
streams. The projects range from concept studies to in-water
device testing.
Today’s challenges of reducing greenhouse gas emissions while meeting the country’s steadily rising demand for electricity make it essential for legislatures and public utility commissions to shift their focus toward mechanisms that make demand reduction as profitable for utilities as increasing supply.
