Update

Team Germany has won the 2009 Solar Decathlon. I was lucky enough to tour some of the homes, which were all incredibly impressive. The homes are not just for show; Team Boston's house, called Curio, has been purchased by the Housing Assistance Corporation of Cape Cod, which plans to use the model to jump start the creation of an energy efficient affordable housing community.

Scott Sklar, President of The Stella Group Ltd., will present the advance photovoltaic systems being deployed for military/intelligence, commerical/industrial and building applications as well as the interface with smart electric utilit grid and battery/hybrid systems. Dr. Robert Birkmire, Director of the Institute of Energy Conversion at the University of Delaware will illustrate the material and manufacturing process advances for photvoltaics which existing manufacturing exceeds 1.5 GW per year and should hit 10 GW per year global manufacturing capacity by 2010.

Building activity in the U.S. also contributes over 136 million tons of construction and demolition waste (2.8 lbs/person/day), and 30% of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions.
